With the start of flu season right around the corner UNM Hospital has scheduled more than two dozen free flu vaccination clinics during the months of October and November.

Public clinics are scheduled throughout the Albuquerque area and at UNM Hospital. Two of the hospital's popular drive-thru clinics will be held Oct. 3 and Oct. 17.

“Vaccinations are one of the most effective ways to protect yourself and your family from seasonal influenza," said UNM Hospital Epidemiologist Meghan Brett. "Everyone over the age of 6 months should have a flu shot."

Those who visit the free drive-thru clinics – scheduled for Oct. 3 at the UNM North Campus Family Practice Center and on Oct. 17 at the UNM Northeast Heights Clinic – can receive flu vaccines without getting out of their cars.

“While it is impossible to forecast just how serious a flu season will be until we are in it, we do know there are no anticipated flu vaccine shortages. We expect to receive some 35,000 vaccine dosages,” said Brett.
