Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is now open to all students who are seeking Federal Financial Aid for attending a higher education institution for the academic year of 2020-2021. FAFSA opened Oct. 1 and UNM will be providing resources to help ease the application process up until UNM’s priority deadline on Jan. 3.
Through the FAFSA application, students are able to receive grants, loans and work-study to help make higher education more affordable. FAFSA is integral to ensuring students are able to receive a higher education.
Submitting after the priority deadline can exclude students from certain types of priority aid. Priority aid includes certain types of grants, work study and certain loan funding. Regardless of the date the FAFSA is submitted, students will always be considered for the Pell Grant and Federal Student Loans.
Students are encouraged to file their FAFSA online at FAFSA Website. Students who are considered non-citizens are encouraged to submit their FAFSA on paper. For more information on how to file via paper visit, Steps to Filing FAFSA.
