The University of New Mexico's Women in Technology (WIT) hosts an inaugural event, Empowering Women in IT and Making an Impact Together on Thursday, Nov. 10 from 8 a.m.to 1 p.m. in Lobo A&B at the UNM Student Union Building (SUB). The event features a keynote address from UNM Vice President for Research, Ellen Fisher and various discussions and talks involving women in technology.

Breakfast and lunch will be provided as part of the event. To register, visit Women in Technology. The deadline to register is Monday, Nov. 7.

Fisher, who is also a professor in UNM’s Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology, has led multiple interdisciplinary efforts, catalyzing cultural shifts in how research happens across academic institutions and in partnership with a range of community stakeholders. Her research interests span a diverse set of topics in materials chemistry, team science, chemistry education, and responsible conduct of research. She’ll present a keynote titled, From Stage Manager to Center Stage: Learning to Lead Your Way, Regardless of Your Role.

The event also features two separate tracks, A and B, featuring noted speakers discussing various topics including Telling Better Stories Using Data and a Cyber Security Panel in Track A, and Developing a Warrior Mindset and Girls in Tech – Be Better than Average in Track B. After, a UNM-WIT Roundtable: Workplace Challenges for Women in Tech Industry will discuss workplace challenges for women in the tech industry. The roundtable will be followed by lunch sponsored by the New Mexico Technology Council (NMTC).
