UNM-Valencia Campus Associate Professor of English and Chair of CHESS, Danizete Martínez, begins her three-year membership to the Modern Language Association’s Committee on Community Colleges (CCC) after being appointed by its Executive Council.

“What an honor,” Martínez said. For more than 100 years, the Modern Language Association and its members have worked to strengthen the study and teaching of language and literature, according to its website.

The CCC is charged with considering a range of issues that affect modern language teachers in two-year colleges. Those issues range from conditions of employment, staffing, curriculum, articulation with secondary schools and four-year institutions, the preparation and recruitment of faculty and the encouragement of scholarship about teaching in the community college.

Over the next three years, Martínez will attend the committee’s meeting at the MLS office in New York to discuss the aforementioned issues, as well as help organize sessions pertaining to community colleges at the MLA’s annual conferences in January.
