The University of New Mexico Department of English Language & Literature hosts the 3rd annual "Celebration of Student Writing" Monday, Oct. 31 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Student Union Building, ballrooms A-C. The event, which is open to the public, kicks-off UNM's first-ever Freshmen Week and features the writing and art installations of nearly 900 first-year students from departments across the university.
Genesea Carter, Celebration of Student Writing planning committee chair said, "The physical representation of the students' work demonstrates that writing has meaning beyond words on paper."
The celebration brings freshman students together from diverse disciplines - biology, foreign languages, communication and journalism, and others – to enhance appreciation and interest in writing while broadening the college experience. Students' multimedia art installations are based on assignments with a writing component.
