The University of New Mexico Student Activities Center (SAC) and the Associated Students of UNM (ASUNM) welcome students back to campus with its annual “Welcome Back Days” slated Aug. 17 - 24. Most events will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the UNM Duck Pond. Each day features a variety of activities, free food, information tables and live entertainment. See schedule for details.

The celebration begins with Friday Night Live on Aug. 17 from 8 to 11 p.m. at the SUB. Activities and events taking place include karaoke, casino games, a dance, henna tattoos, laser tag arena, photo booths, student organization tables, UNM sports teams and free food every half hour.

On Sunday, Aug. 19, UNM holds its annual Freshman Convocation beginning at 4 p.m. at Popejoy Hall. Afterward from 5 to 6:30 p.m., incoming freshmen can stop by the SUB north mall and print a copy of their class schedule and find where their classes are on a personalized campus tour. Concluding Sunday from 8 to 10:30 p.m. Avengers Infinity War will be shown on Johnson field. Welcome Back Days continues Monday, Aug. 20 with Departmental Information Day. A variety of tables featuring the services of numerous UNM departments is set for the first day of school. Also featured is President Stokes’ Ice Cream Social with ice cream and popsicles handed out by President Stokes and other UNM administrators until supplies run out. Additionally, live music is scheduled from 12 to 1 p.m.

Tuesday features free watermelon sponsored and served by the UNM Children's Campus from noon until it is gone. Enjoy safety demos, recreational activities and healthy living alternatives at information booths from the safety, health, wellness and recreation departments, and live music from Kira Holt from noon to 1 p.m. Students can also watch Avengers Infinity War for free in the SUB Theater at 5:30 p.m.

On Wednesday students can stop by the Duck Pond for information from UNM’s ethnic, women’s, the Veterans Resource and LGTBQ Centers as well as other culturally-based programs and departments. Free green chile stew will be provided from noon until it is gone. A live performance from Mariachi Nuevo Sonido takes place from 12 to 1 p.m.

Additionally, information booths from north campus departments and student organizations will be available on north campus. The UNM Children's Campus will serve free watermelon and Pepsi products in the courtyard between the BMSB and Nursing & Pharmacy Building from 11:30 am until it is gone. Students can watch Avengers Infinity War for free in the SUB Theater at 4 and 7 p.m.

Thursday students will get to meet and speak with ASUNM Student Government leaders and learn how to get involved with more than 400 student organizations on campus (200 student organizations plan to have info tables). Listen to great live music from Red Light Cameras at the Duck Pond from 12 to 1 p.m., while ASUNM leaders serve free Dion's Pizza and Pepsi products from 11 a.m. until they run out.  Students can watch Avengers Infinity War for free in the SUB Theater at 3:30 and 6:30 p.m.

Friday will feature university departments hiring students for work-study and student employment positions while community organizations will recruit volunteers. The Alumni Association will serve free donuts in the WBDs food tent starting at 9 a.m. until they are gone. Enjoy music from Eugene from 12 to 1 p.m.
