UNM to Celebrate Staff in July

July is Staff Appre­ci­a­tion Month at UNM. The 2012 line-up includes events from the tra­di­tional Staff Break­fast and Staff Pic­nic to mini tours and lec­tures on a wide range of top­ics. All events except the Staff Pic­nic and Staff Coun­cil Recep­tion are free, and all have oppor­tu­ni­ties to win doors prizes.

Staff can cheer on com­peti­tors at audi­tions Thurs­day, June 21, noon–1 p.m. at the Rodey The­atre in the UNM Cen­ter for the Arts.  A staff mem­ber will again sing the national anthem, open­ing the Iso­topes base­ball game at the Staff Pic­nic on Sat­ur­day, July 21.

Events begin with a mini lec­ture on Elder­care Mon­day, July 2, noon-1 p.m. at the SUB in Ball­rooms A&B.  A panel of med­ical health­care pro­fes­sion­als, includ­ing Anne Simp­son, M.D., pro­fes­sor of Med­i­cine, UNM Depart­ment of Inter­nal Medicine/Division of Geri­atrics talk about a vari­ety of elder­care issues such as com­mu­ni­ca­tion, emo­tional sup­port, hous­ing options and more.

Other mini lec­tures include the His­tory of UNM, Per­sonal Safety, Large Wave­length, Pet Behavior—Facts and Fal­lac­ies and Recy­cling 101. For details, visit: Mini-Lectures.

Four Mini Tours will cover the UNM Obser­va­tory, HSC Anatomy Lab, UNM His­tor­i­cal Land­scape and the Inter­pro­fes­sional Health­care Sim­u­la­tion Cen­ter. All tours start at noon. For start­ing loca­tions and details visit:  Mini-Tours.

Spe­cial guest, new UNM pres­i­dent Robert Frank, will be at the Staff Coun­cil Recep­tion on Thurs­day, July 12, 4–7 p.m. at the Fac­ulty Staff Club, 1923 Las Lomas NE. Freshly grilled ham­burg­ers or veg­e­tar­ian burg­ers, potato salad or Cole slaw, BBQ beans, water­melon and cook­ies will be avail­able for $6. Beer, wine or soft drinks will be on hand for an addi­tional fee. Enjoy the relax­ing music of Celtic Harpist, Kathy Wim­mer. Come meet and talk with Pres­i­dent Frank in an infor­mal, relaxed setting.

The Jim Davis Staff Coun­cil Award for Mer­i­to­ri­ous Ser­vice will be pre­sented dur­ing Staff Council’s reg­u­lar meet­ing on Tues­day, July 17, 1–3 p.m. in the SUB Lobo Room. The award rec­og­nizes sig­nif­i­cant con­tri­bu­tions of an indi­vid­ual to the UNM Staff Council.

The Staff Appre­ci­a­tion break­fast has a new menu this year: Bur­rito Break­fast with red or green chile on the side. Join Staff Coun­cil offi­cers and UNM admin­is­tra­tors on Thurs­day, July 26, 7:30 — 9:30 a.m. in the SUB-Ballrooms where they will serve you a deli­cious break­fast bur­rito, fruit and beverages.

The UNM Staff Pic­nic is on Sat­ur­day, July 21 at 7:05 p.m. at Iso­topes Park. Tick­ets will be on sale Mon­day, June 11 for $5, which gets you admis­sion to the game, a “ball­park meal”, a coupon for a 20 per­cent dis­count at the Iso­topes Souvenir/Pro Shop on game day and a fire­works dis­play after the game. The Ice Cream Social and free Chair Mas­sages are on Thurs­day, July 31, noon-1 p.m. at three dif­fer­ent loca­tions: Hod­gin Hall’s Front Lawn House, Health Sci­ence Library Plaza and Stu­dent Sup­port and Ser­vice Cen­ter foyer.

The Staff Coun­cil rewards and recog­ni­tion com­mit­tee orga­nizes Staff Appre­ci­a­tion events, with spon­sor­ship by uni­ver­sity part­ners includ­ing the Stu­dent Union, UNM Recy­cling, UNM Ath­let­ics, Hod­gin Hall Staff, Human Resources and Fac­ulty Staff Club.
