July is Staff Appreciation Month at UNM. The 2012 line-up includes events from the traditional Staff Breakfast and Staff Picnic to mini tours and lectures on a wide range of topics. All events except the Staff Picnic and Staff Council Reception are free, and all have opportunities to win doors prizes.
Staff can cheer on competitors at auditions Thursday, June 21, noon–1 p.m. at the Rodey Theatre in the UNM Center for the Arts. A staff member will again sing the national anthem, opening the Isotopes baseball game at the Staff Picnic on Saturday, July 21.
Events begin with a mini lecture on Eldercare Monday, July 2, noon-1 p.m. at the SUB in Ballrooms A&B. A panel of medical healthcare professionals, including Anne Simpson, M.D., professor of Medicine, UNM Department of Internal Medicine/Division of Geriatrics talk about a variety of eldercare issues such as communication, emotional support, housing options and more.

Four Mini Tours will cover the UNM Observatory, HSC Anatomy Lab, UNM Historical Landscape and the Interprofessional Healthcare Simulation Center. All tours start at noon. For starting locations and details visit: Mini-Tours.
Special guest, new UNM president Robert Frank, will be at the Staff Council Reception on Thursday, July 12, 4–7 p.m. at the Faculty Staff Club, 1923 Las Lomas NE. Freshly grilled hamburgers or vegetarian burgers, potato salad or Cole slaw, BBQ beans, watermelon and cookies will be available for $6. Beer, wine or soft drinks will be on hand for an additional fee. Enjoy the relaxing music of Celtic Harpist, Kathy Wimmer. Come meet and talk with President Frank in an informal, relaxed setting.
The Jim Davis Staff Council Award for Meritorious Service will be presented during Staff Council’s regular meeting on Tuesday, July 17, 1–3 p.m. in the SUB Lobo Room. The award recognizes significant contributions of an individual to the UNM Staff Council.
The Staff Appreciation breakfast has a new menu this year: Burrito Breakfast with red or green chile on the side. Join Staff Council officers and UNM administrators on Thursday, July 26, 7:30 — 9:30 a.m. in the SUB-Ballrooms where they will serve you a delicious breakfast burrito, fruit and beverages.
The UNM Staff Picnic is on Saturday, July 21 at 7:05 p.m. at Isotopes Park. Tickets will be on sale Monday, June 11 for $5, which gets you admission to the game, a “ballpark meal”, a coupon for a 20 percent discount at the Isotopes Souvenir/Pro Shop on game day and a fireworks display after the game. The Ice Cream Social and free Chair Massages are on Thursday, July 31, noon-1 p.m. at three different locations: Hodgin Hall’s Front Lawn House, Health Science Library Plaza and Student Support and Service Center foyer.
The Staff Council rewards and recognition committee organizes Staff Appreciation events, with sponsorship by university partners including the Student Union, UNM Recycling, UNM Athletics, Hodgin Hall Staff, Human Resources and Faculty Staff Club.
