In light of the recent incident at the residence halls at the University of New Mexico, the Division for Equity and Inclusion (DEI) will hold information sessions on UNM's Hate and Bias Incident Reporting Procedures, on Thursday, March 21, 10 to 11 a.m. and 2 to 3 p.m. in SUB Lobo rooms A&B.;

"The University of New Mexico does not tolerate any act that is hateful or biased and targets members of our diverse community," Jozi De Leon, vice president for Equity and Inclusion, said. "We therefore want to provide multiple opportunities for administrators, faculty, staff and students to learn about ways in which they can respond to any hate/bias incident that destroys our sense of community."

Other events around campus to address hate and bias include an Africana Studies and African American Student Services Teach-In on Wednesday, March 20, 1:15 -3 p.m. in the SUB Atrium.

To build awareness and stop these actions before they occur on campus, the Division for Equity and Inclusion will sponsor a Not on Our Campus (NOOC) event in late April. NOOC is part of the original Not In Our Town film and social movement. Citizens across the United States came together to stop hate and biased acts in their respective towns and on college campuses.

In summer 2013, DEI will lead Stop the Hate Training, which uses the Stop the Hate model to empower administrators, faculty, staff and student leaders to play a role in observing, reporting and responding to incidents on campus. Stop The Hate is an educational initiative of Campus Pride that supports colleges and universities in preventing and combating hate on campus as well as fostering the development of community. The national program serves as the premiere source of anti-hate educational resources for higher education institutions and campus communities.
