This week on New Mexico in Focus, Gene Grant and the Line Opinion Panel react to updates from two of New Mexico’s police forces, including claims from the Bernalillo County Sheriff that their current body camera systems “are trash.”

The panel also considers several new voting rights bills that have been introduced at the Roundhouse.

Finally, the panelists return to examine proposed legislation that would allow local governments to control their own community’s electrical needs.

NMIF Political Correspondent Gwyneth Doland speaks with two lawmakers and a voting rights advocate about a series of bills targeting voting. Legislators from both parties are pushing a wide range of bills, targeting topics like lobbying disclosures, redistricting, open primaries, election security and voting rights for felons.

Gene Maddaus, senior media reporter for Variety, and Gene Grant discuss the recent involuntary manslaughter charges formally filed against actor and ‘Rust’ producer Alec Baldwin, and the task of proving the actor’s culpability in the incident

New Mexico in Focus airs on NMPBS 5.1 (KNME HD) Friday, Feb. 3 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, Feb. 5 at 7 a.m., and streaming on the PBS video app.
