UNM Facilities Management (FM) and the Public Service Company of New Mexico (PNM) would like to inform UNM and the surrounding community that as part of the Phase 2 construction of the new UNM Hospital Tower construction, PNM will be relocating a power line along Lomas Blvd. during the week of June 28 to July 2. Typical work hours will be Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Here’s what you need to know:

PERIODIC ROAD CLOSURES
The relocation project will occur along Lomas Blvd. between Yale Blvd. and Stanford Dr. and will result in periodic lane closures, including short-term, full closures of Lomas in both directions, as needed for worker safety.

MINIMAL RISK OF POWER OUTAGES
The relocation is NOT expected to result in power outages
to the hospital or UNM facilities on central and north campuses. However, there is minimal risk of outage in these areas in the event of excessive power loads or other unforeseen circumstances during the relocation process.

While we do not anticipate any interruption of electric service because of this project, power outages do occur for a variety of reasons. If you do happen to experience an outage, please report it to FM Work Control at 277-1600. Stay informed of planned utility outages by visiting the FM Outages page.

To mitigate risk, PNM, FM Utilities, and UNM Hospital are working collaboratively to prepare and test contingency plans to prevent or minimize any potential interruption of service.

REMOTE WORK RECOMMENDED
In an effort to limit unnecessary power usage during the relocation project, FM is asking departments on UNM’s central and north campuses to consider remote work where reasonable and practical the week of June 28.

For critical functions unable to work remotely, FM encourages a review and testing of existing backup power systems prior to June 28.

Throughout all phases of the hospital construction work, steps will be taken to help mitigate potential traffic and any access issues in the affected area(s). Notifications will be sent out periodically to inform you of additional changes, utility outages, parking lot and/or road closures. Please plan extra time in your commute and be aware of workers while in the area.
