The University of New Mexico’s Institute for Medieval Studies (IMS) and Medieval Studies Student Association are hosting their fourth annual Medieval Faire Friday, Oct. 30, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Johnson Field. The event is a free and family-friendly celebration of medieval history, arts, and culture.

Attendees can try spinning wool, weaving and pottery with UNM’s Arita Porcelain Student Association, Las Arañas Spinners and Weavers Guild and Creativity Warehouse. Old Barrel Tea Company will offer an assortment of teas, plus honey samples and working bees to observe. Participants can create their own medieval spice blend with IMS Outreach and taste authentic medieval recipes at the MSSA bake sale.
Cantores Festivi and the UNM Early Music Ensemble will present live music, with medieval dancing by the Albuquerque Morris Dancers and theater performances by the New Mexico Shakespeare Company. Albuquerque Sword Labs, the Albuquerque Jackals, and the SCA’s College of Blaiddwyn will also present sword-fighting demonstrations.
Explore hands-on workshops, games, demonstrations, and more. Admission is free, with merchandise and baked goods available for purchase—bring cash!
Bring your family and friends for a day of medieval merriment. Costumes are encouraged, so dress up and trick-or-treat at Faire booths!
Middle schoolers will attend on a field trip, adding to the event's vibrancy. We ask all attendees to be familiar with UNM’s Mandatory Reporting for Campus Visitors process.
