Beginning Dec. 15, commuters to The University of New Mexico campus community are encouraged to seek alternate routes due to the scheduled construction of the McKinnon-Anderson building along Las Lomas between Yale and Stanford.
Travel in the area is expected to be delayed, especially when the spring semester begins on Tuesday, Jan. 17.
In preparation for the work on the new McKinnon Center for Management building (Anderson School of Management), construction fencing is scheduled to go up on the morning of Thursday, Dec. 15. Effective Thursday, Dec. 15 east-west travel along Las Lomas through this area will be reduced to single lane(s) and along the north side of Las Lomas.
Between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 15 and Friday, Dec. 16, flaggers will assist traffic in getting through the affected area. From 5 p.m. to 7 a.m. on Thursday, Friday and all day on Saturday, Dec. 17 — depending on weather conditions — Las Lomas will be closed to all traffic between the construction site and the Stanford intersection: please plan your travel route accordingly.
Any of the customers who have regular C permits who usually park in this area will be able to park in other C Zones.
The change in the Las Lomas roadway will necessitate the removal of the parking spaces along the north side of Las Lomas and subsequent re-striping of parking spaces along the south side of Las Lomas into a diagonal configuration (between the McKinnon construction site and Yale).
The re-striping activity, which is weather-dependent, is scheduled to occur on Saturday, Dec. 17 and will remain in place for the duration of the construction project which is projected to take approximately 14 months.
Additional dates the campus community should take note of include the demolition of the roof canopy and connecting stairs between ASM East and West buildings. McCarthy Brothers will begin the demolition on Tuesday Dec. 27 and complete on Wednesday, Jan. 4.
Also on Dec. 27, abatement work will begin in the ASM West building, and beginning Monday, Jan. 16 through Feb. 21, the ASM West building will be demolished. The work will involve a great deal of noise and vibration.
To ensure everyone’s safety, use caution when in the area and be mindful of the workers on-site.
