Vice President for Student Affairs, Eliseo "Cheo" Torres, announced the appointment of Daniela Baca as director of the University of New Mexico Children's Campus for Early Care and Education (UNMCC).

Baca has worked in and out of the classroom during her ten and a half years at UNMCC and most recently served as the UNMCC senior operations manager. She received both her Executive MBA and master's of art in elementary education with an emphasis in early childhood from UNM.

Baca said she is honored to serve as the director of a place that she has always been passionate about. “Over the years, the Children’s Campus has thrived and earned the distinction of being one of the top early childhood centers in the State of New Mexico,” she said.

She is excited about the growth potential for the Center and her future plans will build on what has already been established. "I am thrilled to announce our intention to transform the Children’s Campus into an Early Childhood Resource Center to serve student families of UNM,” she said. She added that the transition will allow the Children’s Campus to better support recruitment, retention and graduation efforts of the university while simultaneously providing necessary resources to student families.

She also plans to unveil the extension of the existing three-year Continuity of Care program an additional year, enabling children and teachers to remain together from birth through four years of age, increasing the overall long-term positive outcomes for children and outlining the future direction of the UNM Children’s Campus.
