Each year, speech-language pathologists, otolaryngologists and other voice professionals worldwide join together to recognize World Voice Day. World Voice Day encourages people to check on their vocal and auditory health and take action to improve or maintain good vocal habits.

Since 2009, The University of New Mexico has recognized World Voice Day. The Department of Speech & Hearing Sciences (SHS) has joined in this worldwide event by sponsoring free vocal education and vocal health screenings.

On Friday, April 17, the UNM’s Speech & Hearing Sciences celebrates World Voice Day with free voice and hearing screenings for teens and adults will be provided recognizing Better Speech and Hearing Month.

Appointments will be held from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., while walk-ins are welcome from 12 to 2 p.m. The screenings will be held in Department of Speech and Hearing located at 1700 Lomas Blvd NE, Ste. 1300.
