The University of New Mexico College of Fine Arts hosts its first-ever ArtsSplash, a showcase of the Fine Arts on Wednesday, Sept. 28. The event will be held on Cornell Mall in front of the Student Union Building from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.  There will be live performances, fun activities, department booths, prizes, food trucks, and free ArtsSplash T-shirts.

ArtsSplash will celebrate the Fine Arts at UNM and raise awareness in the UNM community about all the amazing things happening in the College of Fine Arts, according to CFA Dean Harris Smith. This event is expected to continue as an annual event in the fall.

Each department will have a booth with information, materials, and activities. This includes Music, Theatre and Dance, Film and Digital Arts, Art, UNM Art Museum, Tamarind Institute, BAIA (Bachelors of Art in Interdisciplinary Arts), and ArtsLab. ArtsLab will display a large 3D-printed Lobo.

There will be live CFA student performances from noon to 1 p.m., including jazz combo, marimba, sax quartet, the Dolce Suono choral ensemble, flamenco, contemporary dance, and mariachi.

Food trucks at the event are Tikka Spice, Pop Fizz, and With Love Waffles.

Folks who attend the event will get an Arts “passport” to get stamped as they visit the various booths, Smith explained. Once they get four out of seven stamps, they can get a free ArtsSplash T-shirt.

Information about the upcoming GO Bond will be available at the CFA Dean’s Office booth to raise awareness about the issue that will be on the November ballot.
