A poem that Craven wrote was featured on the program for the memorial.

Potentially a Good Day

Each day I add up the smiles;
As if the smiles each day,
were the way
to record the results
of memorable meetings;
as if the meetings were memories,
more or less momentous,
as if the momentary,
were a sign
of relationships at issue;
as if what was at issue;
was the smallest of smiles
and the ratio of radiance.

In the memorial order of service the Craven family acknowledged the UNM community:

The family of David Craven wishes to express their sincerest gratitude to David's second family, the University community, for its many kindnesses shown to them during this difficult time, especially thanking those in the Department of Art and Art History and the College of Fine Arts, including Kirsten Buick, Joyce Szabo, Holly Barnet-Sanchez, Elen Feinberg, Constance DeJong, Luanne McKinnon, Angelina Skonieczka, Belinda Jentzen, Michelle Evans, Marjorie Crow, Ellen Trus and Nancy Trevino.
