Provost Chaouki Abdallah announced the reappointment of Dr. Mark Peceny as the dean of Arts and Sciences for a second five-year term.

This decision comes after consultation with faculty and staff in the University of New Mexico College of Arts and Sciences, and with the appropriate university officials. He has served in this role since 2011 and will serve through June 2021.

“Dr. Mark Peceny is the best choice to continue to lead the College of Arts and Sciences," Abdallah said. "He enjoys strong support from the College’s faculty and staff and has done a fine job leading the College. During this term, UNM will go through the process of reaffirming its accreditation and the proposed construction of a new Physics and Astronomy Interdisciplinary Science (PAIS) building. Dr. Peceny’s past experience will serve both A&S and UNM well in these initiatives and during these times of financial uncertainty for the University of New Mexico and higher education at large."

“I am deeply gratified and honored by the faith that the Provost and my faculty colleagues have placed in me and look forward to doing everything I can during a second term to preserve and build on the tremendous gains we have made as a College over the past five years,” Peceny said.
