Following a comprehensive national search, Emily Luhman has been named assistant vice president for The University of New Mexico’s Human Resources Division, effective Nov. 1.
As AVP for HR, Luhman will provide operational and strategic support to multiple HR functions and units, including recruitment and hiring, consulting services, and HR-shared services. Most recently, Luhman served as director of the UNM Office for Academic Personnel (OAP), a position held since July 2021. In this role, she was responsible for managing hiring, personnel, labor, and employee relations activities for main and branch campus faculty members and graduate assistants.
"I’m thrilled to welcome Emily back to our HR team,” said Kevin Stevenson vice president for Human Resources. “She brings with her a wealth of human resources experience and an impressive understanding of UNM-specific HR functions and processes. She has worked her way up through multiple positions at UNM and will be able to connect with and lead, our staff at every level.”
Prior to her position at OAP, she served four years as the human resources manager for UNM HR Client Services, and as a human resources consultant in both the Division of Human Resources and the UNM Office of Faculty Affairs and Services. In total, she has more than 17 years of human resources experience in higher education, with over 10 years at UNM.

Luhman holds a Master of Education in Evaluation Statistics and Measurement from Rutgers University and a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics from the University of Wisconsin—River Falls. She is a Senior Certified Professional from the Society for Human Resources Management.
