"Live United" is the theme of the 2010 University of New Mexico's Annual United Way campaign beginning Nov. 1.
"The honorary co-chairs are proud to announce UNM's 2010 United Way goal of $1 million dollars," said Marla Wood, chair of the UNM United Way campaign. "Having raised over $1 million for each of the previous two years, we are excited to again be one of only four organizations in Central New Mexico to do so, showing yet another example of the extraordinary ways in which the UNM community gives back."
In addition to sheer dollars raised, focus is on increasing the number of people donating to the campaign. Even small gifts, when leveraged with the gifts of so many others, can make a big impact, said Wood.
Just $1 per pay period has an effect on the over 100 social and nonprofit agencies the United Way supports in Central New Mexico such as at-risk children, the elderly, victims of family violence and other neighbors in need.
Another of the many benefits of giving to United Way exists right here on campus with more than 2,000 individual entities UNM funds which donors can designate their contributions toward, including:
Agora Crisis Center
Anderson School of Management
Autism Center of Excellence at CDD
Camp Rising Sun
Cancer Research and Treatment Center
College of Arts and Sciences
College of Nursing
Dental Hygiene Program
University Hospital Programs
In an effort to reduce cost and waste and support our sustainability initiative, this year's campaign is going paperless. Paper pledge forms will still be available from unit coordinators and the President's Office, but they can also be downloaded, printed and filled out at Pledge Form.
Please unite with your colleagues and co-workers to make a pledge to this year's drive. And remember that, thanks to the Corporate Cornerstones Program, which underwrites United Way administrative costs, 100 percent of your donation will go to help the people in our community who need it most.
