The RWJF Center for Health Policy presents, "Moving from Science to Policy and Practice: Building Healthier Communities based on Human Rights," Thursday, Dec. 1 from 7-8:30 p.m. at the National Hispanic Cultural Center, 1701 4th St. SW. The event is free and open to the public, but seating is limited.
This lecture, featuring Brian Smedley, vice president and director of the Health Policy Institute of the Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies, Washington, DC, is the UNM Public Health Program Jonathan Mann Health and Human Rights Lecture.
Smedley served as study director for the Institute of Medicine Reports, "In the Nation's Compelling Interest: Ensuring Diversity in the Health Care Workforce and Unequal Treatment: Confronting Racial and Ethnic Disparities in Health Care." In 2004 he was honored by the Rainbow/PUSH coalition as a "Health Trailblazer" award winner; in 2002 he was awarded the Congressional Black Caucus "Healthcare Hero" award.
