Eliseo “Cheo” Torres, vice president for Student Affairs announced the appointment of Jenna Crabb, as the new UNM Interim Dean of Students effective Tuesday, Jan. 5. Tomás Aguirre, the current UNM Dean of Students, will continue in this position until Monday, Jan. 4.

Crabb has been working in Student Affairs in one capacity or another for more than 20 years. Currently, she serves as the director of Career Services, a position she has held for the past eight years, in which she works with students on their career development path while connecting with employers and community. In 2013, she filled the role of interim director for Residence Life and Student Housing, while a national search was being conducted. 

Crabb started her tenure at UNM as a student working in the residence halls and consequently obtained her Ph.D. in Counselor Education with a concentration in Organizational Learning and Instructional Design. In addition, she currently is an adjunct professor for Counselor Education and occasionally for the OI&LS program. 

Aguirre is vacating the position in order to take a position at Texas A&M University – Commerce, where he will serve as the assistant vice president and Dean of Campus Life and Student Development. A national search for a permanent UNM Dean of Students will begin early in 2016.
