The University of New Mexico has announced the appointment of Nasha Torrez as the new UNM dean of students, effective June 1.

“Nasha’s experience and expertise as an associate counsel in UNM’s Office of University Counsel will benefit the Dean of Students Office,” said Vice President for Student Affairs Eliseo ‘Cheo’ Torres.

As an associate council, Torrez has advised and worked closely with Student Affairs on Title IX issues, Clery Act sexual assault reporting, behavioral intervention, student government issues, student confidentiality and grievances, campus law, due process rights, crisis management, freedom of expression and disability rights.

As a native New Mexican, she has vast experience working with diverse populations in school districts, intergovernmental management, policy development, interpretation, and implementation, conflict management, mediation, legal and compliance and fiscal and human resource management.

Torrez received her Bachelor’s of Business Administration degree from UNM's Anderson School of Management and her Juris Doctor degree from the UNM School of Law.

“Her passion and goals for student success will also make Nasha an excellent representative of UNM as the dean of students,” added Torres.  “I would like to thank Jenna Crabb who has served as the interim dean of students for the past five months for her tireless efforts and commitment to the position.”
