Clean spaces and manicured landscapes are important first impressions that attract students and faculty to The University of New Mexico (UNM). The University’s unique main campus is maintained by the Physical Plant Department (PPD), and the newly appointed manager of PPD Environmental Services says he will continue to keep the campus looking beautiful with stewardship and pride.

Michael McCord has been selected to fill this important role at PPD after the hiring committee evaluated many qualified candidates. McCord has been with the University since 2013 as the manager of PPD Area 3, and for seven months served as the interim manager of PPD Area 2 as well.

Al Sena, the director of PPD, believes that McCord is the perfect fit for this job because of his 44 year tenure in facilities management, and his exemplary leadership at the University over the last five years.

“Michael has shown through his service that he is a strong leader with a keen sense of how to implement processes to improve our customer’s experience with PPD. We are excited to have him on the leadership team in the department and look forward to great things to come,” said Sena.

Prior to McCord’s time with the University, he was the facilities manager in charge of the main library and special projects at the Detroit Public Library System in Michigan, and was the superintendent of facilities at Kirk in the Hills Church in Bloomfield Hills, Mich.

The manager of PPD’s Environmental Services division is responsible for planning, development, coordination, implementation, and management of:

  • Custodial Services
  • Grounds & Landscaping
  • Special Activities
  • UNM Automotive Center
  • Integrated Pest Management
