The Interfraternity Council confirms that allegations of sexual assault against the Sigma Chi Fraternity were brought before the Council meeting on Monday, April 25. The Council voted to convene the IFC Chapter Support Commission which is responsible for ensuring that members follow their constitution, bylaws, rules and regulations.

On Wednesday, April 27, the IFC Chapter Support Commission, made up of the chapter president of each member fraternity, met to discuss the matter. A representative of UNM’s Office of Equal Opportunity (OEO) made a presentation on the investigative protocols the University follows when conducting an inquiry into Title IX violations.

Whenever the University receives a report of sexual assault involving students, it is transferred to OEO for review and follow up.

OEO confirms an investigation into the Sigma Chi fraternity is underway, and is asking anyone with information pertaining to the organization regarding sexual misconduct or sexual assault to contact OEO at 277-5251.

The IFC Chapter Support Commission agreed to wait for the outcome of the OEO review before reconvening to determine the next steps.
