UNM’s annual SpringStorm and Fiestas are here once again. The annual event run by ASUNM Community Experience, SpringStorm allows students, staff and faculty an opportunity to participate in service projects that benefit the city of Albuquerque, as well as UNM. This year’s event takes place Saturday, April 12 throughout locations in Albuquerque.

Last year’s SpringStorm event had hundreds of participants and tackled a variety of projects including the restoration of housing developments at ‘NewLife Homes,’ a housing development for low income persons. Community Experience expects another huge turnout to the event again this year.

"This is a great opportunity to get involved and to work together as a community to give back to the city of Albuquerque," said Jillian Martinez, director, Community Experience.

Activities kickoff with check-in at the UNM Football Stadium at 9 a.m., followed by the three hours of community service starting at 10:30 a.m. After the hard work is done volunteers are treated to free lunch on Johnson Field and Student Special Events’ annual Fiestas, a free music festival open to all, beginning at 1:30 on Johnson Field.

Last year, the Fiestas attracted approximately 6,000 attendees. ASUNM SSE is expecting a similar turnout this year.  In addition to the musical entertainment there will be a zip line, human hamster balls, food trucks, popsicles, African dance, bubble making, spray can art, yoga, massages (courtesy of the SHAC), stilt walkers, jugglers, support from Lobo Village/Casas Del Rio and more.
