The UNM Physical Plant Department (PPD) will begin a handrail modification project at various locations on the Main campus beginning this week:
- The west and north sides of Electrical and Computer Engineering Building (46)
- The west side of Anthropology Annex (12)
- The north side of Castetter Hall (21)
- The north side of Woodward Center (82)
This is a continuation of a project which began last year to update stair and ramp handrails in order to meet present day building code and American with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliance. Working in collaboration with the Governor’s Commission on Disability (GCD) and The University’s Facilities Access Committee, PPD was able to create acceptable design standards and a replacement schedule. Already, more than 40 stair and handrails have been brought into compliance on UNM’s Main and North Campus.
This project is weather dependent and all work should be completed prior to July 15, 2016. Be aware of contractors working in these areas and avoid these locations if possible.
