The CNM/UNM Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics Undergraduate Pathways (STEM UP) program created a new app, “UP”, designed to help STEM students easily identify which class credits transfer between CNM and UNM STEM degree fields. In conjunction with the UP app, STEM UP will host an open house for the UNM Transfer Center on south campus and a re-dedication of space at the CNM STEM UP Center on the CNM main campus on Thursday, Sept. 25.
“The goal of the app is to give STEM students a tool to easily determine which courses to take at CNM that will align with a degree at UNM," said Carolina Aguirre, director of the Title V STEM UP program. "It defines an Undergraduate Pathway for students by providing them with a way to map out the most effective route to earning a degree in any of the STEM fields at either institution.” While not meant to substitute advisement, this tool will help students make advisement sessions with CNM and UNM STEM advisors even more effective.
“This is a model for curriculum alignment that impacts the students’ time to graduate," Aguirre said. “The app will allow students to have an informed discussion with their advisor when they are ready to transfer.” The app is user friendly with additional options such as advisor information, pathway notes and more information about the STEM UP program. Aguirre said that it will allow STEM students to have an informed discussion with their advisor. “The app helps define a pathway for CNM students who want to complete a degree at UNM,” she said.
The free app will be available for download on iPhone or Android platforms Monday, Sept. 22, and the official roll out for the phone application takes place at CNM and UNM on Thursday, Sept. 25 during open houses at both of the STEM UP transfer center locations. The app is supported by the Enrollment Management departments at CNM and UNM, and also by the UNM Provost’s Office and UNM Student Services.
