The University of New Mexico Alumni Association hosts its annual Veterans Day Celebration and Remembrance on Wednesday, Nov. 11, at 10 a.m. at the UNM Alumni Memorial Chapel.
Presented in partnership with the UNM Alumni Veterans Chapter, the UNM Veteran & Military Resource Center, and UNM ROTC, the event honors the service and sacrifice of U.S. veterans, with a special tribute to the UNM alumni who have served and gave their lives in the armed forces.
The celebration will feature organ and bugle music, an ROTC color guard, a live national anthem performance, and a keynote address by Cmdr. Jessica L. McNulty, U.S. Navy, a 2003 UNM graduate and fourth-generation sailor whose career has spanned public affairs, international assignments, and service as an adviser to three consecutive Secretaries of Defense.
McNulty began her Navy career as a Surface Warfare Officer aboard USS Curtis Wilbur in Yokosuka, Japan, before transferring to the Navy’s Public Affairs Officer community. Her assignments have included service in South Korea, Afghanistan, Bahrain, and Washington, D.C., as well as leadership roles with the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations, U.S. Fifth Fleet, Navy Personnel Command, Navy Recruiting Command, and the Office of the Secretary of Defense.
At UNM, McNulty earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology. She was also selected for international study at the Britannia Royal Naval College in Dartmouth, England, and La Escuela Naval Militar de Oficiales in Galicia, Spain.
As part of the celebration, veterans in attendance will receive a special pin as a token of appreciation. Additionally, a reception will follow in the chapel courtyard. The ceremony is open to the public.
