The University of New Mexico Art Museum hosts the fall 2013 Book Club on Tuesday, Nov. 26 from 5:30 -7 p.m. in the main gallery. The club discusses “Pictures and Tears: A History of People Who Have Cried in Front of Paintings” by James Elkins.

"Pictures and Tears" considers the emotional process of viewing art, specifically paintings. Elkins looks at the response viewers have had to painters such as Caravaggio, Ingres, Friedrich, David and Van Gogh. Elkins is a professor at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. His other literary works include What Painting Is and How to Use Your Eyes.
