UNM College of Pharmacy third-year students Caledonia Harrison, Marcial Martinez and Donel Sullivan placed second at the University of Florida American Student Pharmacist Compounding Competition held recently.

The competition challenged nine student teams in three areas that included compounding, vision of pharmacy practice, and patient care. During the competition, the teams worked to complete case studies and deliver the best patient care approach using compounding techniques.

The UNM students learned their compounding skills in the patient care lab taught by Dr. Krista Salazar, clinician educator, assistant professor, UNM College of Pharmacy. Salazar was with the students in Florida and said their independent thinking is what helped them achieve second place.
