The annual UNM Gives Campaign is ongoing—through its partnership with the United Way of Central New Mexico and the UNM Foundation—where faculty, staff and employees contribute time and money to charitable organizations, in an effort to change lives and circumstances.

The campaign runs through Nov. 17 and allows the Lobo community to direct their support, whether it be a financial donation or a pledge of volunteered time and talent, to programs and nonprofits of choice.

If each Lobo makes a small donation, UNM can collectively have an enormous impact in the community. Interested donors can sign-up through the UNM Gives website for full monetary donations or monthly draws from a UNM paycheck.

This year, in order to encourage giving, all those who make a monetary pledge to the campaign, through Nov. 17, will be entered into a random drawing for prizes.  Prizes are picked periodically, now through the end of the campaign.

Prizes include:

  • Dinner for 4 with the president and his wife at University House
  • 2 of the president’s seats at a men’s or women’s basketball game
  • Cooking class with Dr. Cheryl Willman at the Cancer Center kitchen
  • And two outstanding departments (one on main campus and one at HSC) with a significant rate of donors will receive a pizza delivery from the president or chancellor.

More prizes will be announced as the campaign continues.

Recent prize winners surprised by the UNM Gives Prize Patrol on Monday, Oct. 30:

Jennifer

Prize Winner: Jennifer George
Prize: Lunch with President Abdallah and two colleagues

“I have given for many years—I believe I started in 2005, right after I started working here,” said George. “I originally started giving because I wanted to be able to donate funds to go toward graduate student software, so I directed my funds to my department, anthropology.”

Prize Winner: Les Myers
Prize: UCAM Lobo Prize Pack

“I have participated in the UNM Gives Campaign for several years,” says Myers. “I originally enrolled because I liked the idea of being able to give something back. While it’s not a huge amount, it’s easy to enroll, it conveniently comes out of my paycheck and it’s nice to know it’s going where I choose.”

Prize Winner: Terry Horger
Prize: 2 tickets to the president’s seats at a men’s or women’s basketball game

“I’ve been giving to United Way for almost thirty years,” said Horger. “I know the great work that United Way does and I like to be able to designate my giving to specific orgs. My intention is that the organizations I give to will be stronger and better, and I can help provide opportunities for growth.  A little bit of money goes a long way and can make a huge difference.”
