The University of New Mexico and the UNM Foundation have publicly launched Accelerate New Mexico, a historic $1.2 billion comprehensive fundraising campaign to expand student opportunity, advance research and innovation, strengthen faculty excellence and invest in New Mexico’s future.
The largest philanthropic campaign in UNM history, Accelerate New Mexico enters its public phase with more than $600 million already raised toward its $1.2 billion goal. The campaign builds on years of philanthropic momentum and reflects UNM’s role in addressing some of the state’s greatest opportunities and challenges through education, research, healthcare and community engagement.
“Our shared sense of purpose with the state is what makes The University of New Mexico unlike any other institution in the country,” said UNM President Steve Goldstein. “When we move UNM forward, we move New Mexico forward. That is the promise of Accelerate New Mexico: a moment of readiness and a future we are ready to build together.”
Accelerate New Mexico is centered on three priorities that reflect UNM’s mission as New Mexico’s flagship public research university: Student Success & Access, Faculty Excellence, and Research & Innovation. Philanthropic investment in these priorities will expand scholarships and educational access, recruit and retain exceptional faculty, accelerate groundbreaking research and discovery, improve patient care, strengthen New Mexico’s workforce and create new opportunities for students and communities throughout the state.

The campaign is the culmination of years of collaboration among donors, alumni, faculty, students, healthcare professionals, business and community leaders, volunteers and partners united by a belief in what UNM can make possible for New Mexico and beyond.
At the heart of the campaign is a simple call to action: Be the Reason. It reflects the idea that transformational change begins with people choosing to act. A scholarship can be the reason a student earns a degree. An endowed faculty position can be the reason a leading scholar makes New Mexico home. An investment in research can be the reason a discovery moves from the laboratory into the lives of people who need it.
