The University of New Mexico-Los Alamos (UNM-LA) welcomed students, staff and faculty for the first day of the fall semester; as Lobos transition back to campus they have the option to take a combination of in-person and online classes.

“After experiencing about 18 months of continuing uncertainty related to Covid-19, having students back on campus has been quite nice," said Cynthia Rooney, UNM-LA chancellor. "We are grateful for each one of our students, as well as UNM-LA faculty and staff who are committed to student success.”

“Welcome to all of our Pack. We are looking forward to a great fall semester.” - Paul Allen, dean of instruction.

UNM-LA has worked to provide a COVID safe environment for students and faculty meeting on campus. Classes are held in large rooms to be able to space students appropriately, and all classrooms are disinfected after each class session. UNM-LA also has masks available for any individuals who may need one.

For the first time in more than a year, UNM-LA also hosted New Student Orientation (NSO). The NSO offered campus tours and an introduction to resources, as well as presentations and a Q&A session.

“This face-to-face event is one of our best tools to help students prepare for success in their first semester, so we were glad to be able to hold it again,” said Grace Willerton, student success specialist.

Rooney said coming out of a year of remote learning proved to be beneficial in some ways, including the realization to increase their ability to serve students in more ways. UNM-LA has more hybrid and online classes in addition to traditional in-person classes, as well as opportunities for both in-person and online advising and tutoring services.

Late registration for classes is still available. Contact Student Services at 505-662-5919 for additional information.
