The Maia chapter at the University of New Mexico was presented the Gold Torch award from the Mortar Board National College Senior Honor Society, due to the chapter’s excellence and accomplishments.
Mortar Board is the premier national honor society that recognizes college seniors for outstanding achievement in scholarship, leadership, and service.
The Gold Torch award is a national distinction given annually to the most outstanding chapters or Mortar Board.
“We are extremely proud of our Gold Torch chapters. Their members set the bar for excellence as scholar-leaders on their campuses, and their innovative programming positively impacts their communities throughout the year,” said Mortar Board National President Abigail Diehl.
UNM Chapter President Jordan Scott accepted the award at the Society’s national conference, held this summer in Indianapolis.
Mortar Board provides opportunities for leadership, promotes service to higher education institutions, and encourages contributions to the global community. Since its founding in 1918, more than a quarter of a million members have been initiated at 231 chartered chapters across the country. This year, 36 chapters took home the Gold Torch.
