Fulfilling a promise UNM President David J. Schmidly made last November to be more transparent about the university's budget process, UNM launched a new website that includes information about purchasing contracts and employee positions and salaries. The website is available at UNM Sunshine Portal.



Visitors to the site can view the UNM Salary Book and find information on contracts greater than $20,000. Salaries of student employees are not included in information posted on the portal because student information is specifically protected under the federal Family Education and Privacy Act (FERPA). Information will be supplemented later this summer with additional data on the UNM budget, other financial information and a search function. The portal will be updated regularly.

UNM is the first university in New Mexico to post extensive financial data publicly. Schmidly said that students asked for easier access to university financial information and this portal makes that easily available.
