Recently, UNM Enrollment Management hosted its annual Counselor Workshop for counselors across the state of New Mexico. Over the years, UNM has been committed to providing resources and support for local high school counselors and this workshop is one way it shows that support.

The workshop began with counselors being welcomed to campus by President Garnett Stokes. Counselors then attended presentations on various topics such as Dual Credit and also Counselor Q and A . The counselors also enjoyed a UNM department rep lunch and a behind-the-scenes tour of the University.

By hosting this workshop, UNM shares information that allows counselors to give their students at various high schools across the state the most accurate and up-to-date admissions information including the admissions process and scholarship information, etc., which counselors typically find useful and constructive in providing their students the necessary answers.

“New Mexico's high school counseling and college and career advising staff are at the front lines of helping the students in their schools navigate the college search process,” said Matt Hulett, director of UNM Admissions and Recruiting. “There is a direct benefit to students when we are able to provide school counseling professionals with information about opportunities for their students in college, admission requirements and financial resources.

"It's an important program that is good for the University, good for the school staff and most importantly, good for the students.”
