Cindy Nava, a current student at the University of New Mexico, has been appointed to serve as the Southwest Regional chair on the US Student Association’s national Board of Directors.
The US Student Association (USSA) is the nation’s oldest, largest, and most – inclusive student--‐led, student--‐run organization. USSA works on issues of college access, affordability, quality and success at the national, state and local level.
Nava has extensive experience organizing and advocating for students at the state level. Among her many accomplishments, she serves as the chair of the Young Democrats of New Mexico Women’s Caucus.
She is a strong advocate for higher education issues in New Mexico. Nava is currently working on the lottery scholarship awareness campaign.
She hopes that the campaign will impact high school students who are not well informed about the precarious situation the scholarship is currently in.
Her work, in turn, will prepare them to become advocates for maintaining open access to the scholarship. Nava will also be building the first-ever New Mexico Statewide Student Association.
The association will bring students together around the lottery scholarship, state funding of higher education and other important issues.
