The University of New Mexico Parking and Transportation Services (PATS) is alerting visitors that main campus will experience heavy traffic throughout the day on Sunday, April 27. Several special events are scheduled and could cause traffic congestion around Johnson Field and Redondo Blvd.

The special events include, but are not limited to:

• Redondo and Yale Blvd. will be closed from 8 to 11 a.m. to accommodate the Spring Fling Triathlon and Wellness Festival.

• Native American Shootout 2014 basketball tournament is scheduled at Johnson Center from 8 a.m. to mid-afternoon.

• Nizhoni Days Pow-Wow is holding afternoon and evening festivities on Johnson Field.

• Youth Symphony Gala Concerts at Popejoy Hall has three performances between 1 and 8:30 p.m., with approximately 5,500 people expected to attend.

Additionally, UNM Parking and Transportation Services (PATS) is alerting commuters to the temporary closure of Student Health and Counseling Center (SHAC) parking Lot A on Sunday, April 27 from 6 a.m. until noon. The closure is due to special events being held on campus throughout the day.

Higher than normal volumes of traffic are expected along Redondo, which could lead to traffic congestion. Be sure and allow extra time for travel and parking if planning to park on campus. Commuters who drive or park on campus may want to plan accordingly, take a different route and allow for extra travel time due to heavy traffic.

University Emergency Manager, Byron Piatt said, “We are very proud of our campus, and the many and diverse groups of people and events that we attract. We hope that the public has the opportunity to enjoy them all, and are working to assure that parking and traffic flow as smoothly as possible. Many campus entities have worked together to coordinate schedules, and share resources and facilities to benefit the public experience and safety.”

Free parking for Popejoy and Pow-Wow events will be available on this day only at the Yale Parking Structure located at the NE corner of Las Lomas and Yale Blvd. Additional parking is available at the Cornell Parking Structure at Stanford Dr. and Redondo Blvd. for an event parking fee.
