Following a careful examination of the critical processes and systems necessary to provide utilities to The University of New Mexico (UNM), Facilities Management (FM) and Institutional Support Services (ISS) leadership have announced the creation of a new, stand-alone department to serve campus utility needs going forward.
The new department, Utility Services, will report directly to Lisa Marbury, assistant vice president of Campus Environments & Facilities for ISS, and it will reside alongside FM, Planning Design & Construction, Parking & Transportation Services, Real Estate, Capital & Space Strategies, Lobo Energy Inc. and Lobo Development Inc.
Elevating Utility Services to department status will help prepare the University to meet the vision and goals currently being established in the UNM 2040: Opportunity Defined strategic planning process.
“While we feel this change will result in better service to the University and more streamlined operations, we do not expect there to be noticeable change to the University community,” explained Marbury. “Overall, transitioning Utility Services to a stand-alone department status will enable leadership to provide a necessary focus on both the complex utility functions at The University, and the ongoing facilities maintenance and service operations.”
The department transition plan, which will be developed over the next several weeks and months, includes creating a new departmental website. Until the new Utility Services website is launched, information on UNM Utility Services can be found online at: fm.unm.edu/services/utilities-division.html.
