The "Tee off for Ted Memorial Golf Tournament" is set for Saturday, June 10 at Marty Sanchez Links de Santa Fe. The tournament is organized to support the Ted S. Lopez Memorial Scholarship at The University of New Mexico. The scholarship supports student Veteran’s.

“We’re here to do everything we can to help our Veterans succeed at the University,” said Patrick Gallegos, director of the UNM Veterans Resource Center. “It’s a great opportunity for the legacy of Ted Lopez, a proud Veteran and alumnus, to be passed down and used to help student Veterans succeed.”

Named after Lopez, the event is also in tribute and memory of the proud Navy Veteran and UNM alumnus. Lopez served as the Communications Officer on the USS Anchorage LSD-36 for the United States Navy from 1972-1975. At the age of 62, he earned his Executive MBA from the UNM Anderson School of Management in October of 2013. Lopez then served as the Director of the Small Business Development

Center at UNM-Los Alamos where he consulted with New Mexico business clients, until he passed away in June 2016.

“Ted Lopez was a proud graduate of UNM Anderson School of Management and continued to help others in the community in business development,” said the Lopez family. “We want to continue that legacy in helping student veterans to pursue graduate degrees in business.”
