In commemoration of the day the U.S. Constitution was signed, The University of New Mexico is holding a town hall focusing on the Second Amendment.

“Gun control: is it constitutional or not? Ask an expert!” is being hosted by the College of Arts and Sciences and will feature discussion moderated by Peter Kierst, UNM Political Science Principal Lecturer.

The town hall is being held Tuesday, Sept. 17 from 10 to 10:50 a.m. in Dane Smith Hall, room 126.

Constitution Day and Citizenship Day originated in the 1940s, when Congress and the President passed legislation setting aside a day for the public to recognize all who had become American Citizens. In 1952, the law was changed to reflect and honor the formation and signing of the U.S. Constitution, while still retaining the original purpose.
