This month New Mexico in Focus discusses the series “Our Land: New Mexico’s Environmental Past, Present and Future” with correspondent Laura Paskus, who introduces viewers to a collaborative program that’s brought together local and tribal communities, the federal government, state officials and local individuals to manage 200,000 acres of forest in the Jemez Mountains.

The new series airs the second Friday of each month. Paskus, an environment reporter for NM Political Report, goes out into the field to talk with local experts and community leaders about a range of environmental issues.

Producer Sarah Gustavus visits Paws and Stripes in Albuquerque, to learn about their unique model for helping veterans get the support they need with the assistance of a service dog. Paws and Stripes matches dogs from shelters with veterans and offers training, mental health services and camaraderie with other vets who understand the challenges of returning to civilian life after an injury during service.

NMiF host Gene Grant and the Line opinion panelists take on some of the top stories in news headlines this week, including treatment for opiate addiction and reactions to the letter the U.S. Attorney General’s office sent to the city of Albuquerque asking for proof that the city is cooperating with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials.

NMiF regularly airs Fridays at 7 p.m. and repeats Sundays at 7 a.m. on Channel 5.1 and Saturdays at 5 p.m. and Sundays at 3 p.m. on Channel 9.1, except during pledge drives.
