The University of New Mexico's Department of Human Resources provides an annual Open Enrollment period for benefits giving employees the opportunity to enroll in, cancel or make changes to medical, dental, vision, life, accidental death and dismemberment, and disability plans. This year's Open Enrollment now open through May 15 at 11:59 p.m.

As an employee, there are only three opportunities to make changes to benefits enrollment—as a newly hired employee, during a Qualifying Change in status and during the annual Open Enrollment.

Through Open Enrollment, employees are able to enroll or make changes for medical, dental and vision plans and enroll/re-enroll In a Flexible Spending Plan (FSA) through Lobo Web. Employees can also enroll or make changes to life, accidental death and dismemberment (AD&D), and disability insurance with a paper form. For full benefit details, visit Open Enrollment.

This year, FSA enrollment will be included as a part of the fiscal year cycle. The FSA Open Enrollment is for the full 12-month Plan Year (July 1, 2020 through June 30, 2021). Employees previously enrolled in FSA must enroll again.

During Open Enrollment, current VEBA participants have the opportunity to opt out of their VEBA contributions. By opting out of VEBA, participants forfeit future access to retiree medical and dental benefits. The Open Enrollment will be the only opportunity for those who have opt-out effective dates of June 1, 2014 to May 1, 2015 to opt back in to VEBA. HR will contact employees directly if eligible.

Prior to making any changes to enrollment status, employees are encouraged to review current benefits and dependent information.

If employees are happy with their current benefit elections, no action is required. If no changes are made, current benefit elections will continue for the 2020-2021 Plan Year, unless the employee is wanting to opt into a FSA. FSAs do not roll over from one year to the next. Changes made to benefits during Open Enrollment are effective July 1, 2020.

All UNM Benefits personnel are currently working remotely and are providing support during normal business hours, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. If you have questions about Open Enrollment, contact Benefits at hrbenefits@unm.edu.
