The University of New Mexico Planning, Design & Construction (PDC) department is overseeing the renovation of the Redondo Court Parking Lot, which began earlier this week.

This area typically provides patient parking and emergency vehicle access to UNM’s Student Health & Counseling (SHAC) and provides ADA accessible parking for central campus. The lot includes some parking for Mesa Vista Hall, Women’s Resource Center, Advisement/Enrichment/Career Services, Johnson Center, and the Natatorium, and serves as a bus drop-off location for various events and activities.

PDC has contracted a local construction company to complete the renovation work which will take approximately five months. During this time, the Redondo Court Parking Lot will experience partial lot closures, and campus users can expect to see workers and construction equipment moving in and out of the area. Temporary safety fencing will be erected, though caution should be used when traveling near this area.

As part of the renovation project, 1.15 acres of land will be reconstructed to better accommodate all of the competing uses for the area including expanded parking into the landscaped area northwest of the Natatorium to increase the number of spaces available in this area; new landscape with trees, shrubs and other site improvements will be added to provide a safer more enjoyable pedestrian environment; drainage issues in this area will be corrected; and a drive lane will also be added for Natatorium drop-off. Wider than normal drive isles will also be created to accommodate emergency and broadcast vehicles.

As a reminder, ADA parking is available in the Cornell parking structure. A state-issued accessible parking placard (when properly displayed) is valid for use in a pay station space at no cost.
