Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) is recognized every year during April. Each year, the National Sexual Violence Resource Center promotes SAAM by highlighting a specific theme and this year’s theme is Building Safe Online Spaces Together.

NSVRC is the leading nonprofit organization in providing information and tools to respond to and prevent sexual violence.

The goal of this year’s campaign is to show that building safe online spaces as a community is possible by practicing digital consent, intervening when seeing harmful behaviors, and supporting online communities that value respect, inclusion and safety. This can lead to less cyberbullying, harassment, and sexual abuse online.

In support of the national movement, The University of New Mexico is holding a SAAM Consent Fair on Tuesday, April 5 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Cornell Mall.

UNM’s Consent Fair is being organized by the LoboRESPECT Advocacy Center and includes activities from departments across campus aimed at educating the community on consent. Lobos are also encouraged to wear teal ribbons and clothing that day in support of survivors of sexual assault. Additional events will be announced on the UNM LoboRESPECT Advocacy Center social media or check out the calender here

Sexual harassment, abuse, and assault happens in all communities and affect people of all gender identities and ages. Sexual violence is any type of unwanted sexual contact. UNM supports those who have dealt with sexual harassment or violence and has many on-campus resources for those in need of support.
