Skyros Carnival Celebrated in Lecture

Dick Blau, professor of film and photography at the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee will speak on the Skyros Carnival on Thursday, Dec. 2 at 4 p.m. in Hibben Center, Room 105.
Blau will discuss the way Greece's Skyros islanders hold a yearly mirror to themselves by performing the noisiest and raunchiest carnival in Europe. He will also discuss the politics and aesthetics of representing such an event and speak about the new photo book/DVD/CD collaboration he has with Greek anthropologists Panos Panopoulos and Agapi Amanatidis and with UNM sound and visual artist-anthropologist Steven Field.
