The University of New Mexico Art Museum (UNMAM) is excited to announce an open call for submissions to BioSymposium — a research showcase that will be hosted Nov. 15 in connection to UNM's Research & Discovery Week 2024. This event allows students, faculty, and staff to present their research and discoveries in science, technology, art, and biology.
Exploring themes and concepts from UNMAM’s current exhibition, Hindsight Insight 5.0, BioSymposium will bring together artists, researchers, and those on the forefront of creative exploration at the University of New Mexico. The symposium aims to create space for UNM students, faculty, staff, and alumni to present research and discover the vast fields of biology, art, science, technology, and their respective intersections.
Examples include:
- Lecture presentations of artworks or artistic processes. (2D works on paper, 3D works, video, new media, installation artworks, digital art, internet art, interactive medias etc.)
- Past or ongoing research at the intersections of art, design, visualization, science, biology, and technology.
- Scientific findings at the intersections of art, design, visualization, science, biology, and technology.
- Other topics/projects as presenters see fit, corresponding to the themes of BioSymposium.
"The opportunity to continue collaborations within Hindsight Insight 5.0 with individuals and teams from across UNM campus is very exciting," said Joseph McKee, BioSymposium organizer. "BioSymposium will demonstrate the importance and breadth of the arts and design within UNM’s research enterprise, an area that may often be overlooked.”

UNMAM’s current exhibition “Hindsight Insight 5.0,” can provide inspiration as submissions for BioSymposium can be connected by its context and themes. They are allowing broader topics and themes such as: art, science, technology, cyborgs and robotics and sustainability.
