The University of New Mexico’s Human Resources division has announced the appointment of Kathy Agnew and Kevin Stevenson as interim assistant vice presidents.

With the recent retirement of HR Vice President Dorothy Anderson, Senior Vice President Teresa Costantinidis has temporarily restructured the division by selecting Agnew and Stevenson to serve in these dual positions.

“This interim and temporary realignment of the HR organization into two segments, each with an assistant vice president, is intended to allow our leaders to continue providing excellent customer service while focused on their particular areas of expertise,” said Costantinidis. “Both organizations will continue to work in a coordinated and collaborative fashion and I am confident that Human Resources will continue to offer the highest quality performance for the members of our UNM community.”

Agnew’s experience spans over 20 years as a human resource professional, including serving as director of Employment and Compensation Services for New Mexico State University where she supported the staff, faculty and students. Most recently, Agnew led the client services department within Human Resources as executive director.

She earned a Bachelor of Administration degree from Columbia College in Missouri and is a Certified Senior Professional in Human Resources. She is originally from La Pine, Ore. and through her own, and her husband John’s, military service has lived in several locations throughout the United States and overseas. She moved to New Mexico in 2005 and enjoys spending time as an amateur photographer.

“I am excited to be selected as one of the interim assistant vice presidents for Human Resources and am looking forward to continuing the mission of delivering exceptional services and valuable support to our faculty and staff,” said Agnew.

Agnew will oversee many of the HR services including the Service Center, Compensation and Labor and Employee Relations in addition to Client Services.

Before his appointment, Stevenson was executive director of Human Resources overseeing all Finance, HR IT, and Employee & Organizational Development activities. Before joining HR, Stevenson was the Strategic Planner in the UNM Office of the President where he led a variety of university-wide strategic initiatives including oversight of the University's strategic plan and representing the University president in a wide variety of internal and external strategic efforts.

In his 16 years at UNM, he has held leadership positions with the Center for Education Policy Research and the Office of the Vice President for Research and Economic Development and has served as Special Assistant to two past UNM Presidents. He has also been a faculty member in the Anderson School of Management where he taught entrepreneurship and technology management.

Stevenson’s work at UNM has garnered national attention having been featured by the Chronicle of Higher Education and presented to the United States Senate. He holds a Bachelor of Science in applied mathematics and a Master of Business Administration in technology management, both from UNM.

“I’m grateful for the opportunity to help lead the HR division through this period of transition,” said Stevenson. “I am excited to work with Kathy and the entire HR team to continue providing exceptional support and service to employees and departments across campus as we continue to navigate the challenges of the pandemic. I’m grateful to Senior Vice President Costantinidis and the entire UNM leadership team for their unwavering support of the entire HR team during this transition.”

Stevenson will provide oversight of Benefits & Employee Wellness in addition to Business Services, which encompasses Finance, Employee & Organizational Development and HR IT.
