Due to sidewalk and road restructuring, UNM Parking & Transportation Services (PATS) has announced several sections of roadway, on the south end of main campus, will be temporarily closed this summer.
The closures on specific road/roadways are as follows:
- Monday, May 20 through Monday, June 3 – The roadway between Redondo and the Student Union Building (SUB) will be closed to all vehicle traffic. This work will require the temporary closure of the 3 ADA spaces located in this area; 2 will be temporary relocated in a nearby lot. The sidewalk running along the west end of the Popejoy Hall building will remain open during most of this time. The closure will allow the curb-gutter to be reset and a new roadbed to be laid.
- Monday, May 20 through Friday, June 7 – The right hand westbound lane on Redondo will be closed between the west end of Johnson Field and Stanford. The closure will allow the curb-gutter to be reset and the sidewalk in front of JCER to be laid.
- Tuesday, May 28 through Friday, Aug. 2 – Redondo will be closed to all vehicle traffic west of the entrance to the Cornell parking structure and Yale Blvd. The closure will allow the curb-gutter to be reset and a new roadbed to be laid.
In order to avoid unnecessary traffic congestion, the University community is encouraged to avoid the area if possible, and to follow all detour and pedestrian traffic signs.
UNM South Lot closure and combined shuttle route
PATS has also announced the upcoming summer closure of South Lot, also known as Stadium East, effective 7 p.m. Friday, May 10 and through Sunday, Aug. 18, and associated changes to south campus shuttle service.
While South Lot is closed, “SOU” permits will be honored in Q Lot. The G/Q shuttle service will continue regular operations — 6:30 a.m.–7 p.m., Monday through Friday — throughout the summer. South Lot will reopen effective 6:30 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 19 for the 2019-2020 academic year.
Lobo Village shuttle service
Starting on Monday, May 13 Lobo Village shuttles will switch to the “SSSC/Lobo Village Combo” shuttle service for duration of the summer.
SSSC/Lobo Village combined service
SSSC/Lobo Village Combo service will start on Monday, May 13 and run through Friday, Aug. 16.
During the summer semester, the SSSC/Lobo Village shuttle will operate Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. and will service the following stops:
- Yale Mall
- Lobo Village
The shuttle will make stops at the Yale Mall and SSSC/Research shuttle stops approximately every 20 minutes, and the Lobo Village stop approximately every 40 minutes. The last shuttle will depart from Yale Mall for South Campus at 6:50 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Regular service for all shuttles will resume on Monday, Aug. 29 at 6:30 a.m. for the start of the Fall 2019 semester.
PATS to update pay station software
In an effort to continue to meet Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards (PCI-DSS), PATS will be updating the credit card readers and associated software in the pay stations located in the Cornell and Yale parking structures.
PATS has scheduled the upgrade project to take place May 20-21. While the project is being completed, pay stations will be marked as “temporarily out-of-service” with directions to a nearby active pay station.
EMV (Europay, Mastercard & Visa) card chips provide an added level of security against fraud. A chip enabled card is more difficult to clone than cards that only use the traditional magstripe. Upon completion of the project work, the pay station system will take both kinds of credit cards, EMV chip or magstripe.
