Commencement is a landmark moment for all students, and while nothing can replicate the in-person experience of commencement, graduating students can expect a celebration nonetheless. On Saturday, May 30, UNM will host a Spring 2020 Virtual Celebration for all graduates.

More than 3,000 students are projected to receive degrees from UNM’s Albuquerque and Extended University campuses and the institution is utilizing the “Virtual Celebration” as an opportunity to celebrate the landmark moment in for each of these spring graduates’ lives in a way that protects the health of the campus community and guests amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. The virtual event does not replace an in-person ceremony and members of the class of 2020 will be invited to participate in a future in-person commencement.

As part of the Virtual Celebration video recorded messages will be played from President Garnett S. Stokes, Health Sciences Center Chancellor Dr. Paul Roth, Board of Regents representative Kim Sanchez-Rael, Provost James P. Holloway, ASUNM President Adam Biederwolf, GPSA President Muhammad Afzaal Husain and Alumni Association Board President Alexis Kerschner Tappan.

To celebrate the students, each graduate will have the opportunity to be recognized with an official slide that can be customized with a photo, personal message and short video. These slides can also be downloaded and shared on social media.

Videos of speakers and links to the slides and videos of the graduates will become available at 9 a.m. on May 30. The celebration will not be broadcast live, simply visit the Lobo Graduation website at any time to access the full content of the virtual ceremony at your convenience.
